YouTube and T-Mobile are welcoming the future and advancement of technology while Google Play Music is going backwards.
The new trend in superior mobile displays is 1440p resolution, otherwise known as QHD. Few phones are blessed by this pixel-dense resolution, the most popular being the LG G3. The problem with such high resolutions is the lack of support, though. No content providers offer 1440p resolution videos, but now we can count on YouTube.
Reports say the 1440 option is starting to appear for YouTube users who have a 1440p display. In addition, the uploader should also have made the video available in said resolution.
Opinion: Google can sometimes take long to support new technologies. In fact, 1080p support only came to the app recently, so it’s nice to see them acting fast.
Unlike other carriers, T-Mobile seems to be proving that they have no problem unlocking smartphones. The top 4th USA carrier has released a new app that allows customers to SIM unlock their smartphones.
There is a bit of bad news, though. It seems the app is only compatible with one device – the Samsung Galaxy Avant. The app allows for two option, temporary and permanent unlocks. One would be for traveling and would unlock the SIM slot for just 30 days. The permanent option would be subject to certain “eligibility requirements”.
Opinion: SIM unlocking is an important factor for many users, but carriers often give you little options in this regard. Though the app is not available for everyone, it’s good to see T-Mobile taking steps in the right direction.
Handling authorized devices for Google Play Music can be a bit of a hassle, and now Google is making it a bit more annoying to keep your devices in check. You won’t find this news pleasing if you are someone who often changes devices. Google has brought back the infamous deauthorization limit. Users can now only deauthorize up to 4 devices per year.
Opinion: As someone who works with gadgets, I can attest to how annoying these limits can be. I have a long list of review units in the Play Music device management system.
