Xiaomi has launched their new flagship smartphone in Dehli, India today. The Mi 4i could be called an iteration of the Mi4 or it could be named as such because of all the India specific touches that appear in this modern premium midrange smartphone.
The Xiaomi Mi 4i has a 5 inch 1080p Sunlight Display which actually enhances the images on the screen when they are put into direct sunlight. The display also runs at 30
% less power efficient and is composed of Gorilla Glass 3 .
The display is housed in a a unibody polycarbonate body design that comes in 5 colours: black, white, orange, light blue and pink.
Under the hood we’ve got a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, the 2nd generation Octa-Core processor has 4 cores that run at 1.7Ghz and the other 4 run at 1.1Ghz alongside 2GB RAM and 16GB storage.
During the presentation they showed this beautiful realibility and quality assurance video which, I have to admit, it total phone porn to me! They showed off a water resistance test and didn’t mention any IP rating, so i’m guessing that it’s IP67 which is shower resistant like we’re seeing in the video. Hugo also stated that the port testing was of a higher calibur since they tested the micro USB and headphones being put in at different angles like a regular person would do.
No word on a MicroSD card which seems to be the biggest let down so far. One of the big high points of the presentation was the 3120mAh battery that should give you 1.5 days of battery life and the whole thing weighs in at only 130 grams.
The camera is shaping up to be the best yet on a Xiaomi, the 13-megapixel shooter has a f/2.0 aperture, dual tone flash that adjusts to produce level skin tones. HDR has also been improved by adding in Gamma & contrast tuning, color correction and low light de noising. On the front we’ve got 5MP front camera with improved Beautify.
Connectivity wise it comes with Dual Micro SIM capabilities that support FDD LTE 1800 and TDD LTE Band 40 for India. It also comes with wifi 802.11 a.c, MU-MIMO which gives great downloading speeds and USB OTG which is popular with quite a people.
Price wise we’re definitely not being let down, it will launch in India with a price point of 12999RS or $205 USD! I’m glad to see that the pricing has become a lot more reasonable, the initial launch of the Mi4 carried a much higher initial price tag. The Xiaomi Mi 4i goes on sale April 30th in India and will be available in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia shortly after in May.
Xiaomi offered up a comparison of some of their competitors specification wise, and they under cut all of them on pricing.
