Big news comes from Microsoft as they announce the upcoming version of Windows. Meanwhile, in China, Apple and Xiaomi are all the hype this morning.
Today is Microsoft’s big day. The company is finally announcing their upcoming operating system – Windows 10. The new software will become available in late 2015. This is a long time from now, but that is because Microsoft has big plans for Windows 10.
We all know the changes in Windows 8 weren’t very well received, so the next version will take the UI back to its roots. It will be a mix between Windows 7 and Windows 8. The Start menu is back and the desktop mode is priority, but live tiles and other Windows 8 features are added in what seems like a smarter manner.
Furthermore, this platform will not only be for tablets and computers. Microsoft plans to put Windows 10 in a multitude of devices and form factors. Windows 10 is said to power devices ranging the Internet of Things to enterprise data centers.
Opinion: Windows 8, in my opinion, was a bit of a mess. It nearly forced people to use the Metro UI and was highly touch-focused. This became an issue for desktop users who had a wonky experience with mice and keyboards.
Apple hasn’t had the easiest time trying to get the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus released in China. The country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has been all over it, making sure the devices are secure and ready for the market.
Turns out the iPhone 6 devices just go green light and are ready to hit the streets! The iPhone 6 will be sold in China starting October 17th. There seem to be no backdoors for spying on users, which is China’s major concern with US manufacturers.
Opinion: One would think this process would be easier, as most of the device is manufactured in China! Such is life in the tech world. At least we know our fellow Chinese geeks will soon be able to get an iPhone 6.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been seen visiting the Xiaomi offices in Beijing. What could be his business there? If the latest rumors are correct, Xiaomi could be releasing a Windows Phone device soon.
What’s more exciting, this phone should be characterized with affirdability and quality, as all Xiaomi devices are. This device should launch with a super low price tag, rumored to go as low as $50!
Opinion: Xiaomi has become one of the most important manufacturers, selling out devices in seconds wherever it goes. Can they do the same with a Windows Phone product? If the price is right, even I would go get one!
