Google IO is just around the corner and we are all getting ready to see what the Search Giant has for us at their biggest yearly event. Google IO is made for developers, but we all know it’s also where Google tends to announce their biggest products and projects.
What will we see this May 28th when Google takes the stage at the Moscone Center, in San Francisco? We can’t say for sure, but there’s some things we know Google should address soon. Let’s run you through them.
While Google hasn’t come out and said much about the next iteration of Android, their Google IO session schedule briefly mentioned Android M. The session at hand was very quickly removed from the site, but it proves the new software will definitely be one of the main topics.
This is no surprise, really. Google IO has been home to multiple Android version announcements. We still have no idea what this Android M will bring to the table, or what moniker it will carry, but seeing what’s next has everyone going nuts. I’ll take a guess and say it will be Android “Marshmallow”.
We know all about it and we have even used it, but Project Ara continues to be one big mystery for the industry at large. Will it take off? Can it be as seamless as they are touting it to be? We will see when it gets released, during the second half of 2015. Either way, I am sure we will at least see some kind of demo at Google IO. Hey, maybe developers will even walk away with one!
Android Wear is nothing new, but we believe it will be a big focus at Google IO 2015. I mean, competition is fiercer than ever with the Apple Watch released. In fact, I am almost sure an Android Wear device will be one of the freebies at the event. Recent rumors talk about Google bringing Android Wear support to iOS – maybe we’ll hear something about this?
No matter how much we tell you otherwise, people keep saying Google Glass is dead. It’s only the Google Glass Explorer Program that died, not the Google Glass project. In fact, Google is getting ready to add the finishing touches to finally bring a consumer version to market!
We are almost sure we will hear something about Google Glass at IO. At least a nice update.
Time is going fast and we are already starting to see self-driving cars hit the market. What about Google? They did, after all, pioneer this movement (at least at large scale). Google’s self-driving cars have been in the testing for years and we haven’t heard much about them recently. I am hoping to see some Autonomous vehicle news here. I want to know when I can have my very own super cute, self-driving vehicle!
The previous sections list what could be the biggest news at Google IO, but there are many topics Google will likely touch on by the end of the month. Of course, we expect to get some updates on Android Auto and Android TV, which continue to grow as more manufacturers adopt the software.
We will likely also hear something about Project Fi, which we are all going nuts for. And of course, we can’t forget about Project Tango, a tablet that can literally read its surroundings and work with its environment. Of course, we also can’t forget about the new Chromebook Pixel, which I also expect to be given out at IO 2015.
We are also sure there will be some surprises, so stay tuned as we learn more about Google’s latest endeavors.
