Verizon is feeling very jolly and bringing you awesome gifts this season. More details on the MICA smart watch emerge, as well as Sony’s new high-end smartphone camera.
Verizon is the #1 carrier in the USA, so we know their Connection Day offers will affect many of you. Thanksgiving is nearing and the day before is set to be among the busiest traveling days of the year. That would be November 26th, and Verizon has some neat gifts to make your traveling a bit less stressful.
For starters, Verizon customers are eligible to get a whole extra GB of free data on their next billing cycle. This will help you stay connected during the holidays. In addition, Verizon has partnered with a plethora of digital content providers to get you some nice treats for those long flights and rides.
Verizon FiOS is offering special access to popular movies and TV shows on November 26th. Amazon will give you 10 free/discounted apps and 2 free audible books for new members. Current members will get $10 credit and 10 free songs from Amazon Music. Apple will also have a special offer, but the details are a mystery until the day comes around.
Condé Nast is also giving you free digital edition downloads of all 17 publications, including Wired, Vanity Fair and GQ. You will also get 30-minute complimentary internet through Boingo and Gogo Technologies, as well as free in-flight WiFi from Jet Blue (from Nov. 26 to Dec. 31). And to finish off right, you will also get a free 7-day trial of Pandora One.
Go to Verizon’s Connection Day website to sign up for email notifications. You will also be able to redeem these offers from that site when the day comes around, so mark your calendars.
Opinion: This is a lot of offers! Thanks, Verizon. You will definitely make this stressful season much easier on many of us. Especially with that extra GB of data!
We saw the MICA smart watch at IDF 2014. To say the least, we were impressed (especially Nicole). So much that we named it one of the best wearables for women. Wearables mostly cater to men nowadays, so having a nice accessory that doubles as a smart watch offered a fresh breeze of technological winds.
We didn’t know much about price and availability then, though, and we couldn’t turn it on. The latter is still the case, but now we know the MICA will have a high focus on Yelp, Google Calendar notifications, and notifications from a VIP list of people.
It’s simple and discrete… and it won’t come cheap, as we assumed. The device is said to be launched at $495, making it one of the most expensive wearables around. It does come with a 2-year data package from AT&T, though. It launches in early November in Opening Ceremony shops and Barneys.
Opinion: That is one expensive wearable! Do keep in mind it has some expensive materials and is arguably the best looking wearable for women out there.
Sony’s high-end smartphone cameras are not only in their best smartphones, other manufacturers come to Sony for these sensors. The Japanese manufacturer is leading the industry in this department, so when a new sensor is announced we put attention.
Today Sony has announced the Exmor RS IMX230, a stacked 21 MP camera that will take over the market in April 2015. But let’s get to the juice – what makes this sensor special? For starters, it features a super fast auto-focus system based on image plane phase detection.
This will also help improve focus for moving objects, something others try to do with software (not very successfully). In addition, you will be able to shoot HDR photos and HDR-enhanced 4K video.
Opinion: We can expect to see this new sensor in future flagship smartphones, as well as other devices. Sony will be selling these to manufacturers for $18 a piece, which is said to be a very good price.
