Maker Faire’s are popping up all around the world all and each is bringing it’s local flair to the craziest show for gadget freaks and makers. Nicole Scott & Stewart Haston wondered around the Maker Faire Shenzhen to see what tom-foolery they could find. The rain may have threatened the demos of many of the makers but it certainly didn’t stop the crowds from gathering to tinker with the many creations. 3D Printing, Volumetric Printing, Arduino boarders, NFC Rings, Exo-sketetons and more lined the stalls of the exhibition whose unique value proposition is that it’s offers some of the fastest prototyping in the world. Maker Faire San Mateo might have more larger than life, Burning Man inspired installations but Maker Faire Shenzhen’s exhibitors all have the ability to scale their creations for mass market distribution. This fact gave the Faire a slightly more business oriented tone with attendees asking questions that focused a little more on business model than inspiration.
Last years Maker Faire was 1/3 of the size according to a few people who attended the 2013 show which boasted 530,000 attendees, since the Shenzhen Maker Faire is still on today we’ll have to wait for official numbers to come in. However, with speakers like Yariv Bash Co-Founder of SpaceIL a Maker project that will be sending an Israeli spacecraft to the moon in the 2015/2016 for a mere 36 Million Dollars, we can easily see Shenzhen Maker Faire smashing last years attendance record.
We’ve got a video on the way, but for now we thought we’d share some of our favorite photos from the show!
