This afternoon is all about Sony, as the Japanese manufacturer’s Demand Great event takes place in NYC. What is new? Let’s take a look.
We were expecting Sony to announce the Xperia Z3 for the USA at today’s announcement. And they did, but under a different name. The US version of the device will be named the Sony Xperia Z3v and it will be released exclusively through Verizon.
Verizon is not being very specific about specs, but we can expect it to be nearly identical to the global Xperia Z3. You can read our Sony Xperia Z3 review to learn more.
In terms of price and availability, everything will be pretty standard. The device is launching on October 23rd and and will be priced at $199 on a 2-year contract.
Opinion: This will be one hell of a device. The design and features go parallel with everything we have seen from the Xperia Z3. It can even take advantage of PS4 Remote Play features. I am actually considering signing up for one.
Sony has always had a good relationship with Verizon in terms of wearables. Most of Sony’s SmartWatches have been sold in Big Red’s stores, and that tradition is not dying soon.
Aside from its Xperia Z3v announcement, Sony and Verizon also announced the Sony SmartWatch 3 was to come to Verizon stores “later this month”. It won’t be exactly cheap at $249, though.
Opinion: I think Verizon and Sony will have a hard time selling this one for $250. After all, some of the best smartwatches out there are priced similarly, and they look much better.
While it has been subject to many rumors, we heard nothing of the HTC One M8 Eye at the manufacturer’s Eye event in New York. That’s because this device is exclusive to China and India, and it has just been released at the former.
Chinese residents can now purchase the HTC One M8 Eye for 3999 Yuan, which equals to about $652 USD. You can get it now from HTC’s Chinese website.
Opinion: This is pretty much an HTC One M8, but with a 13 MP camera. No surprises there!
