Alongside 3 smartphones, a tablet and loads of other gadgets, Sony presented the VAIO Duo 11 Slider today at IFA. The Slider combines the best of both worlds: tablet and ultrabook. It looks and functions very much like the ASUS Eee Pad Slider.
The VAIO Duo has an 11.6 inch full HD touchscreen display. Inside the Windows 8 Slider is an x86 processor from Intel. Like many Windows 8 tablet the keyboard and touchscreen go hand in hand together. One minute it’s an ultrabook, the next, the keyboard is slide under the screen and the whole device becomes a tablet.
Check out how it works in our hands-on video:
At 18 millimeters, the Duo is somewhat thicker than the average tablet, but then, it has a keyboard underneath that screen! The gadget weighs 1.3 Kilograms, which is light for an ultrabook, but obviously not for a tablet. To hold it as a tablet comfortably, two hands are necessary. It also comes with a stylus.
Starting at 1199 Euro, the Sony VAIO DUO 11 isn’t, unfortunately, some good affordable fun. To consider the price, one must consider the duo as two pieces of equipment: ultrabook and tablet. You can get the Core-i3 Ivy Bridge Processor for that price and for 1399 Euro, the Core-i5. By the end of October the device should be available.
