Samsung is acquiring a mobile payments company and updating its T-Mobile Galaxy S5 variant. All while Microsoft is getting ready to introduce a highly requested feature.
It was only a matter of time before Samsung dipped its toes into he mobile payments market. We have Softcard, Google Wallet and Apple Pay all over the market, and the next one may come from the famous Korean manufacturer.
Samsung has acquired LoopPay, a company that focuses on contact-less mobile payments. The main difference here is that LoopPay’s technology is quite difference, which would put Samsung at the forefront, as merchants would need to special equipment in order to accept payments. LoopPay uses a technology called MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission). You simply place the device next to any card reader, and it will work.
Opinion: Impressive, right? This would put Samsung ahead of the competition, by far. Having a technology like this would mean Samsung’s mobile payments solution would be supported by every single store that accepts credit cards, from day one!
