Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge camera walkthrough – was all the hype worth it?

It’s no news – Samsung always touts its flagship devices as some of the best camera phones around. This is somewhat true most of the time, but I must accept I am never as impressed as I thought I would be. This time around it’s different, and I am actually pretty stoked about what the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge can offer in terms of camera quality.

The specs on this thing are amazing, and we have seen some camera samples that would have you doubting everything you knew about smartphone cameras. Let’s take a look at the camera specs and Samsung’s sample images.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge camera specs

  • 16 MP rear-facing camera (and 5 MP camera on the front)
  • f/1.9 F-Stop
  • Smart OIS (optical image stabilization)
  • Quick launch
  • Tracking auto-focus
  • Auto real-time HDR
  • Full manual mode
  • Fast and slow motion

Right off the bat you can tell this is going to be an awesome camera. And those shots sure look amazing, but they are still taken by Samsung. These were likely taken by professionals, who have a solid background in composition, lighting and everything regarding taking a good shot. How will the regular Joe do with his food and party photos?

We went back to Samsung’s booth to give you a deeper look into the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge’s camera hardware and software. We went through all the settings and features for you, so grab your popcorn and come enjoy these 7 minutes of pure Galaxy S6 Edge camera beauty.

We specially like that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge’s camera handles low-light photos like a boss. This is thanks to the f/1.9 aperture, which allows the sensor to receive much more light information. In addition, Samsung has put in OIS in order to improve stability for shaky hands or moving photos.

I am also a fan of the addition of manual mode. If you really want to capture an image a specific way, you just have to go manual. You will need to know the fundamentals of photography first, but there is nothing like having full control over your camera.

Now tell us – what did you like most about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge camera?
