One again, Mobile Geeks are hands on with the latest Samsung Galaxy S5. This time Roland takes a few minutes to walk us through the ten most important features of what will arguably be the most sought after 5” Smartphone on the market this year.
There can be no doubt that in the 5” Smartphone landscape the Samsung Galaxy S5 looms large. This is not least because it represents Samsung’s flagship Smartphone device, a device by which the company’s status in terms of innovation will be judged, and by innovation I mean more than simply using great quality components for the display, processor, camera and battery – I mean which features of the device are really ground breaking, helping to evolve the mobile device experience.
Roland has done great job in the video below, showing some detail how Samsung is really thinking out of the box with the new Galaxy S5.
Top Ten Samsung Galaxy S5 Features Overview
• Fingerprint Reader
• Heart rate meter
• Camera App
• Micro-USB 3.0
• Water and Dust Resistant
• Replaceable Lithium-ion Battery
• Ultra Energy Saving mode
• Kids Mode
• Download Booster
• IR Blaster
All the ten features Roland mentions in the video above prove that Samsung has plenty to offer in terms of innovation with the current generation, but I have my own personal favorites. Firstly I think the Ultra Energy Saving Mode is a great idea. If you are on the brink of a dead, powerless phone, it would be fantastic to be able to switch to a super low power state that essentially turns off key services like GPS and WiFi, turn the back light to down to minimum settings and basically keep your phone in a lower power c-state or standby mode where you can still make and receive phone calls and texts, but not much else.
Another feature that really grabs me is the ‘Kids Mode’ feature. We all know that kids today love to play with Smartphones, and just because it’s a high-end, expensive device owned by an adult relative, does not mean they’ll be extra careful. Once Samsung’s ‘Kid Mode’ is enabled, your little darlings are restricted to a locked, simplified UI where games and fun apps are readily available, but other apps and crucial phone settings are out-of-bounds, locked behind a password.
Finally, I’d have to say that the ability to combine Wi-Fi and 4G/3G bandwidth simultaneously using Samsung’s Download Booster feature is a terrific idea. In previous years, arguably 3G speeds were so slow that adding your 3G bandwidth to your Wi-Fi bandwidth would have been had very little impact on your overall download speeds, but the Samsung Galaxy S5 is, like most of today’s new breed of phone, LTE-ready. In the video above Roland mentions how LTE and Wi-Fi combine to reach speeds of over 120Mbps… Impressive!
