Samsung as you might all be aware is prepping its Android powered smartwatch. What we were not aware until now was that the Korean company might launch that product at next months IFA event scheduled for September 4. The Galaxy Gear as the device is said to be christened will not be restricted to a notifications tool – as the norm has been with most products that fall into the “smartwatch” category.
The Galaxy Gear like I mentioned earlier will run Android and would be also able to make phone calls is likely to sport a web browser as well. According to a Bloomberg report, the device would also be launched in select markets shortly after its announcement next month. This could also mean that Samsung might just pip Apple and bring its smartwatch first – before Apple does so at an event later this year – or early next year.
There have been many reports about the possibility of Samsung working on a smartwatch since the beginning of 2013. Initially however, there were more reports about Apple’s “iWatch” than there were reports of Samsung’s smartwatch. For the same reason, it would be commendable if Samsung does manage to trump Apple and get its smartwatch out first.
As for Apple, there have been reports that the “iWatch” might get a delayed launch at Apple’s February – March 2014 launch events. At the Unpacked II event at IFA, Samsung is also expected to debut the Galaxy Note III. The Note III is expected to get a bigger 5.7-inch full HD display and an Exynos 5 Octa eight-core processor. The camera is expected to be bumped up to 13 megapixels.
We hope both these new products would be made available by October 2013.
