Not long ago Samsung was accused of employing child labor in the manufacturing of it’s popular gadget lines and it didn’t take long before the company was cleared of these accusations. It seems that the whole experience has left a foul taste in their mouth as the company has just announced they will be checking out 250 of their suppliers.
Samsung will conduct on-site inspections of 105 Chinese firms with exclusive contracts with the company and 144 more that don’t work exclusively with the Koreans will be required to provide documentary proof of their compliance with labor codes.
“We are implementing a rigorous plan to address any potential violations,” the company said in a statement, vowing to terminate contracts with any Chinese suppliers in violation of labor norms. Samsung has committed a 100 person team to ensure that none of their partners are walking a questionably ethical line.
Looks like Samsung acting aggressively to protect its reputation and when it comes to child labor we’re glad they’re taking it so seriously.
