Project Ara becomes more real than ever. The Nexus 6 is now available for pre-order. All while James Franco keeps showing off the Droid Turbo.
2015 is coming fast, and so is the imminent launch of Google’s Project Ara. Many of us still can’t believe the modular phone is even possible, yet we will be holding them in just some months. With a launch coming soon, Google wants to make sure developers are on board, so they have announced a second Project Ara Developers Conference.
It will take place in Mountain View, CA come January 14. There will be another event on January 21st, this time in Singapore. Of course, there will be satellite events for both, so you are not missing out. Developers are needed and we hope you can make it, but did they show off anything to get consumers excited too?
They certainly did. The video below shows Project Ara actually booting Android! It feels a bit slow and wonky, but keep in mind this is still a prototype. Hey, maybe the modules happen to be low-specced!
Opinion: It just seems so unreal that Project Ara has gone so far. The idea of a modular phone is still a bit odd, but it offers some amazing opportunities. I can’t wait to see it come 2015!
Waiting for the launch of the titanic Nexus 6? You may have had a chance to pre-order your own device this morning. The Nexus 6 went up for pre-order temporarily, showing a November 2nd shipping date.
The idea would be that the date would get pushed back if demand gets too high. It’s a pre-order system that has worked well in the past, but it seems that wasn’t good enough. The device went out of inventory soon afterwards.
Opinion: This could mean one of two things: either the launch was a glitch and got canceled, or the phone sold so quickly Google thought it may be a better idea to put the phone out of stock again. I find the latter hard to believe. Not that the Nexus 6 isn’t an awesome phone, but people won’t rush in like with previous Nexus devices. Mostly because of the price.
These incognito James Franco commercials are proving to be quite fun. A new Motorola Droid Turbo commercial has been released, this time featuring him in a coffee shop. The theme is similar to the previous ad, it’s a couple people recording a video in what seems to be a natural fashion.
After recording him for a bit, they notice he drinks a cup of coffee unbelievably fast while using his phone, which we will assume is a Motorola Droid Turbo.
Opinion: Is the Motorola Droid Turbo really that fast? It’s certainly no weakling, but we will have to test it before we can say it measures up to its hype. I am certainly enjoying these commercials, though, so that’s a good start.
