Your afternoon news roundup has been taken over by the hype Android 5.0 Lollipop is starting all over the web. The new Nexus devices are great, and they will all come with Android 5.0, but when will our current devices be blessed with a Lollipop update?
That is really what you guy want to know, and we have some details to share already.
We know the Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and even the Nexus Player will come with Android 5.0, but what about other Nexus phones? Google’s devices are known to be among the first to get new updates, and this time won’t be the exception.
Google clearly tells us the update is also coming to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and all Google Play Edition devices “in the coming weeks”.
Opinion: You should be getting your update soon, but do realize different versions get updates separately. So give or take a few days (hopefully not weeks), depending on which device you have.
Motorola has gotten on the awesome habit of updating its devices very quickly. Part of this may have been due to its time under Google’s ownership, but even now they continue to do a great job at this.
The manufacturer has just announced its plans to update its current devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Things are looking great, guys! They want to bring Android 5.0 to both generations of the Moto G, both generations of the Moto X, the Moto E, Moto G with LTE, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini.
Opinion: The time frame is not yet known, as it depends a lot on when the OS is released. Keep in mind the carriers also play a big role here, so some may get the update before others.
Sadly, Android 5.0 Lollipop was just announced and it will take a while before other manufacturers speak out their plans (if they do). We wanted to give you a quick update on those devices that are known to get it soon.
As for the rest, we are not sure. We do know Google needs to release the preview images and SDK before manufacturers and developers get to work on Android 5.0 Lollipop, though.
The Android Developers team has taken it to Twitter to let us know when this will happen. October 17th is your day, devs!
Opinion: Just because Google releases the tools, it doesn’t mean all manufacturers and devs will pick them up right away. Some will take longer than others. Just a reminder.
Developers, get ready for Android 5.0 Lollipop! Check back 10/17 for Android 5.0 SDK & updated Nexus preview images. http://t.co/c6LGv88Ofc
