Pebbe has announced its 2nd generation smartwatch! Steam is also entering a new age with an upcoming VR headset. Meanwhile, LG keeps showing off the gorgeous Watch Urbane.
Rumors of a new Pebble smart watch have been circulating the net, and today is the company’s big day. Pebble has taken the wraps off the Pebble Time by launching it where it all began – Kickstarter. They blew through their $500,000 goal in less than half an hour and are nearing $5 million in funding in the time of this post’s publishing. Impressive, right?
What is the new watch all about, though? The Pebble Time comes with a new design and OS, as well as a color e-paper display and microphone that offer a new way to interact with your content. It continues boasting the amazing battery life the original Pebble had, with up to 7 days of juice on a single charge. It’s also water resistant and works with both iOS and Android.
The new OS looks very interesting. They are implementing what they call a “timeline interface”. This timeline takes information from all apps and services, curating what is most important and allowing you to easily access all your information in an organized manner. In addition, these timeline notifications are actionable, which means you can interact with them immediately.
Retail price is expected to land at $199, but funders were able to get the watch for as low as $159. Of course, all early bird spots are now gone, but you can still get the watch by backing $179 or more. Or you can wait until it’s released and pay a couple hundred.
The Kickstarter page states the watches will be shipping in May, so you won’t have to wait long!
Opinion: It’s interesting to see Pebble going back to Kickstarter. They are now a large company and have sold over a million watches in the past, so it doesn’t seem like they really need the funding anymore. Why not just launch the thing on their own? Well, Pebble states they wanted to go back to their roots. The campaign still has 31 days to go, so make sure to go sign up if you want tob e among the first to rock a Pebble Time.
Everyone is joining the virtual reality bandwagon. Large companies like Google, Microsoft, Oculus, Samsung and even LG have been showing their offerings, and one more is about to show off its new hardware soon. Yes, we are talking about Steam, one of the most influential gaming companies around.
The company is calling this new hardware SteamVR for now. Whether that will be the final name of the product or not is another question. All we know right now is that Steam is launching this at GDC 2015, which happens to take place next week.
Opinion: It seems SteamVR is being launched as a project that is made by the company from the ground up. Int heir short teaser they call for developers and publishers interested in developing for this ne whardware, so we will likely see a dedicated platform. Let’s wait and see!
Not impressed with the images of the LG Watch Urbane? The Korean manufacturer has a brand new video teaser for you. It comes packed with amazing visuals, dramatic music and a very good look at what the Watch Urbane will be offering.
Opinion: This thing is so sexy! I really can’t wait to get my hands on one of these. I would be willing to say it’s the best looking Android Wear device around. Would you agree?
