Today we are bringing you coverage of the OPPO event on Singapore where the company is launching its latest and greatest Android smartphone, the OPPO N3. The OPPO N3 is a 5.5 inch device that packs a high-end Qualcomm processor, a Full HD display plus the now trademark swivel camera which offers 13MP shots and selfies. The difference is, this time around the swivel camera is motorized and can you can even control it remotely.
Oppo are a real force to be reckoned with in their native Mainland China where devices like their high-end Oppo N1 and Oppo Find 7 smartphones have made quite an impact. The new OPPO N3 launched today has all the goods needed to become a very popular device, not just in China but also around the globe. The fact that today’s launch is taking place in Singapore can be seen as an indicator of how Oppo wants to enhance and grow its presence outside of China. The OPPO N3 not surprisingly has all the hardware prowess to lead Oppo’s push into a more global high-end space.
OPPO N3: A Worthy Flagship Contender
The new OPPO N3 could in fact be described be described as a Phablet, as it is a larger smartphone device with a display of 5.5 inches across the diagonal. Unlike the OPPO Find 7, the OPPO N3 remains at Full HD resolution with the company opting not to go with QHD. The internal hardware looks good with one of Qualcomm’s current top performers the Snapdragon 801 happily matched with a decent 2GB of RAM. The motorized swivel camera is a high quality 13MP camera sensor from Schneider that is backed by dual LED flash, auto-focus and 4K video support.
Don’t forget to watch our hands on video of the new OPPO N3, shot at the launch event in Singapore:
The motorized rotating / swivel camera was the real star of the show today and can be controlled by the user in a number of different ways to point either front or rear directions. Control modes include onscreen controls within the camera app, by using the O-Touch pad installed on the back of the device, or by an O-Click 2.0 remote, a small remote control that lets you take pics with the click of a button. The original OPPO N1 had a swivel camera head that required manual configuration. In our tests it worked well and is actually a pretty unique and original camera feature that means you are getting some really top class selfie pics.
One other feature that we see here on the OPPO N3 that we have not seen from OPPO before is the addition of a fingerprint reader, a feature that is fast becoming standard on devices of this caliber – we have seen it before on the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 4, the new iPhone 6 and 6 plus as well as the Huawei Ascend Mate 7.
