This morning takes off with news on the OnePlus One, a Meizu smartwatch teaser and rumors of an NVIDIA Shield tablet.
While the rest of the world begs and prays for a OnePlus One invite, the Chinese have been able to purchase it with no invite for a while. Today is a special day, though, as the 64 GB Sandstone version has just become available in China.
The device is now available for 2,299 Yuan (about $370). This may be a bit more expensive than the usual $350 price point, but the Chinese can rid themselves of invite hassles and long delays.
Opinion: I don’t understand how OnePlus works. They keep delaying devices and making a huge deal out of their invites, yet they can handle giving their own market unlimited access? It really is all pure marketing.
Meizu has taken it to Weibo to give us a teaser of what could be coming. The manufacturer is showing a hand with a drawn watch, hinting at a possible smartwatch to come. The Weibo posts asks people if they have the habit of looking at their watch, so there is not much else to take from this post.
Opinion: We have no idea if Meizu is planning to release its own platform, but we would really love to see more manufacturers supporting Android Wear. I somehow feel this will not be the case, though. Meizu is known for trying to differentiate itself from the usual Google experience.
The NVIDIA Shield portable gaming console didn’t receive the adoption the company expected. It’s a great device, but it needs that little something extra the gamepad wasn’t able to fully provide. The chip manufacturer is ready to take on the market again with a said NVIDIA Shield Tablet.
A device going by that name has just passed by the GCF (Global Certification Forum), which validates network and wireless connectivity. Other specs are unknown, but we can assume this will sport the latest NVIDIA mobile processor, which is the Tegra K1.
Opinion: Can a Shield tablet save the gaming Andorid device concept for NVIDIA? We know tablets offer more than just gaming, which could help boost sales. Those looking for a tablet already may might as well go for the Shield Tablet.
