OnePlus has been in the news for leaks around the OnePlus Two or the Sequal, but GizmoChina might have gotten a hands on with the OnePlus Mini.
Usually I don’t cover leaks, but there is something about the Chinese dishes and cutlery in the background that made me want to share. The OnePlus Mini has leaked with a Specification sheet based on an AnTuTu benchmark. This next generation smartphone that looks to undercut flagship devices with top notch specs appears to have tuned things down in the smaller version. At 5 inches the Mini appears to be running a Snapdragon 615 chipset with an 8MP camera for the main shooter as well as the front facing. It will likely be running Color OS as the relationship with CyanogenMod has been dissolved, and it’s currently running Android 4.4.4 KitKat but if I was a betting gal, I’d guarantee it would be running Lollipop upon release. Design wise it does appear to be in line with the OnePlus One, the back is a glossy plastic that makes me thing this might be an early sample. OnePlus is known for pushing the boundaries on covers and falling short on production, so I wouldn’t expect a fine finish this early on.
The source for the leak claims the OnePlus Mini will be launched in 2015 (really? not 2016 … seriously, if you’re going to leak at least provide a guess on which quarter). Now what is really interesting is the price, if it does hit the shelves for $245 we’re looking at mid range specs. This doesn’t really seem inline with what OnePlus has been going for with the OnePlus One, all flagship at a killer prices. If we look at other 5 inch smartphones on the market it should be sporting a Snapdragon 800 at least. Sony with the Z3 Compact is 4.6 inch and sports the 800, but we are looking at a much higher price point. Regardless, the Snapdragon 615 would push it into a category where $300-$350 smartphones are starting to roll out.
What do you think, true or false?
