OLPC XO-3 Rugged Tablet Project Cancelled

Another product bites the dust! It looks like the OLPC tablet, the XO-3 will not be making it to market. According to Network World the ruggedized tablet for developing countries has been cancelled.

The 8 inch XO-3 tablet was going to feature a 1GHz ARM processor with a 1024 x 768 pixel Pixel Qi display and it was of course safely packed in a rugged rubber case.

If you’re wondering what happened to the XO-4 which is the next evolution of the XO Laptops that we’ve seen in the past, it is still in the works. Keeping in line with previous iterations it will keep its rugged design that allows it to be useful in dusty hot climates. A low power processor and display will be central to the design and its display will rotate turning it into a tablet when needed. This will be the first OLPC laptop to feature a touch screen so it can be more than just an e-reader. Expect this device to arrive sometime in 2013.
