Nokia brings a new approach to launchers with its Z Launcher. Meanwhile, PayPal and Amazon aim to take on your wearables with new apps.
We never thought we would see a Nokia Android launcher, but the Finnish company has just released an open beta app on the Google Play Store. It goes by the name of Nokia Z Launcher and takes on a whole different approach.
In a way, it’s like a smart launcher. It learns your habits and gives you suggestions based upon them. It’s a very unique launcher, to be honest. It also looks completely different. All your recent apps are presented in what we would consider the home screen. Then you can use letter gestures to pull up other apps that start with the letter you input.
Go ahead and download it straight from the Google Play Store. You may or may not regret it.
Opinion: Nokia’s Z Launcher is odd, to say the least, but it’s interesting. I will test it for a while and report back.
PayPal is an important player in mobile payments, as the biggest internet bank around. It’s imperative that they play their part in the wearable market, as well, an it seems they are starting to spread their wings further.
The new app for Pebble brings users the ability to check in, pay and get payment notifications from PayPal. It’s simple, and it can even use a payment code to complete the transaction.
Opinion: I use PayPal on the daily, so I love the idea that they are spreading to most major wearables in the market. This does include Android Wear and other Samsung smart watches.
As if binge shopping wasn’t easy enough through your smartphone, now you don’t even have to pull out your device to get your goodies. Amazon has updated its app with Android Wear support, offering you the ability to search, add products to your wish list and buy them with 1-click.
The new features do require that you are in the USA and have Android 4.3 and above, though. Oh, and you need an Android Wear device (duh). If you qualify, you can get your update from the Google Play Store.
Opinion: This will be a dangerous tool to have during the holidays. It will be way to easy to shop!
