The Sony Xperia Z4 was a big disappointment. The phone was pretty much identical to the Z3, which very small improvements and an unbelievably similar design. Now it turns out Sony want’s to bring more goodies to the party with the just announced Sony Xperia Z3+. Does this one have what it takes to wow us?
Sony Xperia Z3+ specs

- 32 GB of internal storage
- 20.7 MP Sony EXMOR R rear-facing camera
- 5 MP front-facing camera
- 146.3×71.9×6.9 mm
- 144 grams
Now, as you can see, this phone is nearly identical to the Xperia Z4, which was also just like the Xperia Z3. In a way, we are not as upset with the Xperia Z3+, as the company is making it very clear that this is only an incremental upgrade. It’s not quite a completely new design yet, it’s just an improved phone. The reality is that the Z3+ is pretty much the Z4, but for all other markets.
The phone is still waterproof, and one of the upgrades makes this a slightly better feature. The USB port no longer needs a cover in order for the phone to stay protected against water. Pretty cool, right? That flap was very annoying to deal with.
Other improvements include the addition of a more powerful, newer processor. But there is one thing that is slightly downgraded – the battery. This phone comes with a 2930 mAh battery, as opposed to the 3100 mAh battery on the Sony Xperia Z3. Sony still swears this phone can last up to two days, though. This phone is also thinner at just 6.9 mm of thickness.
We are huge fans of Sony here at Mobile Geeks, and I can honestly say we love what they have been doing the past few years. I just don’t understand why the Japanese manufacturer would go a whole year without a real upgrade. They straight up pulled an Apple, here. Not cool, but maybe they have something ready for later in the year!
