Alcatel has launched the One Touch Idol Mini S, the fastest small phone in its Idol line. Sporting a 4.5” 1080p IPS display, and weighing just 116 grams, it has plenty to offer.
The Idol Mini S features a Quad Core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU, with an internal memory of 4 or 8GB EMMC, with 1GB RAM. It also features an internal HD of 2GB or 6GB, and an external micro-SD slot, for an optional 32GB of additional HD space.
The Idol Mini S is powered by a 2,000mAh lithium battery that can handle between 9 and 13 hours of talk time (depending on network settings), and a purported 35 hours of music playback. This is worth noting, as this phone features a large stereo speaker, and supports MP3, MIDI, FLAC, Vorbis, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, and AMR playback.
With its 4.5” screen, it measures only 0.5” smaller than its big brother, the Idol S, but still features a 1080p HD 540 x 960 display, with 5 point multi-touch, oleophobic coating, and full lamination. That being said, the Mini S’s back panel does feel slightly less sturdy than the Idol S, even with its standard metal bumper.
It has an 8 Megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, touch focus, face detection, smile detection, an LED flash, and several photo modes. The front-facing camera is a lackluster 2 megapixels, making it somewhat of a Selfie-deterrent.
The software package is a pretty standard version of Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), with some additional features, like one-touch photo zooming. One thing to note is that Alcatel has developed its own version of Google’s Chromecast, an HDMI dongle dubbed “Home V102”, which allows users to mirror their mobile screens on a TV or projector.
