Microsoft is going all in with its software improvements, with 2 services reaching new milestones today. We also have a sweet deal if you need a battery pack.
Some of you may have heard of Torque, a Microsoft app that reached the Google Play Store not so long ago. Not everyone was able to enjoy it, though, as it only supported a select number of Android Wear watches. Today’s Torque update to version 2.0 changes that, bringing compatibility to smartphones.
If you don’t know what Torque is, it’s pretty much Microsoft’s equivalent to the “OK, Google” hotword. Instead of using your voice, though, you have to shake the device. The app is now available from the Google Play Store, so go give it a try.
Opinion: I find Torque’s activation gesture a bit more accessible and easy to use. Have you ever tried saying “OK, Google” in a loud place? You will find that the success rate is pretty low.
Microsoft’s digital assistant, Cortana, is quickly becoming a very popular service, but it’s not available everywhere just yet. There’s no need to worry, though, Microsoft is working on bringing the service everywhere. Slowly, but surely.
Today Cortana is becoming available in 4 new countries, which include France, Italy, Germany and Spain. The trick is that the service is not completely released yet. Windows Phone Beta users will get the alpha version, which does mean you may find some bugs and unexpected issues.
Opinion: Can Cortana take on already established digital assistants? It’s definitely a good contender. I have seen it take on Siri and Google Now very well on head-to-head comparisons. Test it if you can!
Looking for a good battery pack? We have the right deal for you! How about a nice 12,000 mAh external battery. These normally cost a pretty penny, but Amazon has the Jackery Giant+ Premium Portable Charger for just $29.95.
Opinion: To put things into perspective, that is a $100 discount, so you are getting a steal. It’s only available today, though, so hurry!
