VR headsets are all the hype and it seems every manufacturer is jumping in this digital bandwagon. The latest to join the club is LG, which has created a free VR headset for anyone who purchases the LG G3… only less than a month before the LG G4 announcement. Is it a great headset or too little too late?
The handy Google Cardboard device hit my doorstep some days ago and I wanted to tell you all about it, just in case you were still eyeing the LG G3. Those who purchase it can expect a pretty cool treat, to be honest.
The VR for G3 is pretty much a glorified Cardboard headset. One that is made completely of plastic and won’t break apart on you anytime soon. Not to mention, it’s made to fit the LG G3 perfectly. It works, looks and feels great, but I do have a couple complaints about it.
For starters, the action toggle is hidden away when the VR for G3 is all put together. This is a decision that makes no sense, as LG could have easily formulated a cut-out that would give you free access to the switch. It was clearly a design misshapen.
My second issue with this headset is that the nose area happens to be a bit uncomfortable. I let multiple people use it, and most of them told me that area didn’t fit right. Only one of them mentioned it was fine, and it was a small girl.
Aside from these issues, though, the VR headset did everything you would expect it to do, and it is a great way to experience VR on the cheap. Well, actually… on the free, as you don’t have to pay a penny for this contraption.
My only real issue is that this headset was announced about a month before the LG G4 announcement. It really doesn’t make much sense to purchase an LG G3 at this point, unless you can find it on a good discount. Or if you really don’t want to wait for the G4 to come around.
I wouldn’t recommend that you buy the LG G3 just to get this thing bundled, but it’s a super awesome treat if you are set on getting the G3. I just wish LG can offer something similar for its next flagship… and in time.
