Design and build quality
The LG G4 is no build quality beast compared to other devices, but it does manage to feel pretty good in the hand. LG is taking another direction here, though. The phone is not really meant to feel solid… it’s meant to feel unique. So much that LG has gone as far as making genuine leather back covers.
This phone is the epitome of tech as a fashion statement. LG is putting together leather covers in multiple different colors, as well as the plastic/metallic materials we have seen before. And even those come with very elegant and intricate designs. To make matters even better, these back covers are swapable, which means you can alter your phone’s look along with your mood.
The LG G4 is gorgeous; it will turn heads and start conversations, for sure.
LG was not exaggerating when they told us that 5.5-inch QHD Quantum display was a beauty, and a clear upgrade over the G3’s screen. This thing looks stunning! The display looks very crisp and vibrant. It’s also amazingly bright. One of the brightest we have seen, actually.
Of course, this phone is fast and powerful. It may not have the Snapdragon 810, but the Snapdragon 808 doesn’t fall too far behind in terms of performance. In fact, the difference will probably be unnoticeable most of the time.
This is a powerful processor, and 3 GB of RAM will ensure your multi-tasking experience is pleasant. Be sure this phone will also be able to handle pretty much any game, which is the ultimate benchmark.
The camera seems great as far as we have tested it. It focuses super fast thanks to that laser auto-focus, and images are crisp, smooth and well-exposed thanks to that f/1.8 aperture. Can it beat the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6? We can’t say yet, but it’s definitely trying to get close.
There’s a lot of features in the camera app, which is what makes the G4’s shooter so fun. We go over them in the video, so give it a good watch.
Memory and battery
Now, I know these two categories are weird to put together. Shouldn’t each have its own section? The reason why I opted to place our memory and battery opinions in one section is the same reason why this phone is so amazing.
As we said in the title, this phone is why we even fell in love with Android, a platform that promised more freedom and an open philosophy. The specs are already great with 32 GB of internal storage and a 3000 mAh battery, but that is not where the fun ends.
LG is sticking to its guns and deciding not to move away from expandable storage (microSD) and removable batteries. Both of which are features some of you hard core geeks can’t live without.
We can not wait to get our very own review unit. In fact, we can not wait to actually own this device. The LG G4 really does represent what we fell in love with when Android boomed. It has a removable battery, expandable storage, a customizable UI.
Not to mention, this is an amazing phone even without those features. It has a design like we have never seen before, great performance, a highly improved camera and overall awesome specs. What is there not to like? I guess we will let you know in the full review.
