The latest mid-range smartphone from Lenovo is the Vibe X2, a 5 inch Android smartphone that is the first to run the MT6595 processor from MediaTek. We managed to hold of the device, which also debuts a unique layered design, at IFA 2014. Check out our hands on video below.
The Lenovo Vibe X2 sits below the newly announced VIBE Z2 which will command a retail price of around $430. The Vibe X2 cost around $399 when it comes to market in China in October of this year. The device runs Android 4.4. Kit Kat with Lenovo’s in-house developed VIBE UI, integrates 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The Vibe X2 is LTE HSPA+ compatible (targeting China Unicom customers) with Dual-SIM support. The device packs a Full HD 1080p 5 inch IPS LCD display and offers a 13MP rear facing camera with auto-focus, light sensor and LED flash, while on the front Lenovo have added a super selfies 5MP camera. Battery life should be decent with a 2,300mAh battery.
Check out this hand on video of the Lenovo VIBE X2, direct from IFA 2014:
The Vibe X2 runs on the latest system on chip from Taiwanese manufacturer MediaTek, the first of what the company calls a True8Core processor which is the first ARM-based processor that actually engages all 8 cores simultaneously to offer improved performance and battery life. MediaTek had hoped that its True8Core processors including the MT6595 model would help the company break into the high-end smartphone market, and while the Lenovo Vibe X2 is an upper tier product, it is still a little ways off genuine flagship territory currently served by the Vibe Z and forthcoming Vibe Z2.
Lenovo also talk up the Vibe X2 as being the worlds first multi-layered smartphone with a series of easy to integrate Vibe Xtensions, essentially a range of click-on accessories that include the VIBE X2 speaker which adds an amplified speaker, plus a stand and built-in microphone for group conference calls. The VIBE X2 Battery adds a thin battery that extends the devices battery life by around 75% and doubles up as a protector.
The Vibe X2 will be available for around $399 USD in China from September, with selected global availability in October.
