Apple has officially launched the iPhone 5 and if you’ve some how managed to miss the rumors they weren’t able to keep the cat in the bag since the handset looks just like the leaks. It’s 4 inches and 7.6mm thick with a weight of only 112 grams. As we expectd this is the thinnest and lightest iPhone that Apple has ever made, and is constructed “entirely” out of glass and aluminum.
Under the hood we’ve got an A6 processor which promises 2 x the CPU performance as well as a 2x improvement in graphics.
They’ve upgraded the camera with a sapphire lens and with the front facing camera you can now make a FaceTime call right over the cellular network.
The iPhone 5 is a whopping 18% thinner than its predecessor 4S 20% lighter to boot. It has a phenomenal 326 pixel display with a screen resolution of 1136 x 640 with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The new display size has allowed for the addition of a new row of icons, which, sadly, is being considered as one of the handsets major software updates.
A new connector was also announced called Lightening, it’s has an all digital, 8-signal design, adaptive interface, improved durability and is reversible.
The new smartphone will also have LTE connectivity, with a single chip, single radio, and what Apple describes as a “dynamic” antenna. Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T LTE flavors will all be supported.
Same price for the iPhone 4S $199 $299, $399 with a two year contract and the iPhone 4 being free and the 4S costing $99. Pre order starts on September 14th shipping the 21st.
