India’s homegrown mobile phones and computer peripherals maker Intex had introduced a new handset called the Aqua Style Mini to the market to counter the rising influence of the likes of Motorola and Xiaomi in India. The phone, priced strictly under the psychological Rs.5,000 mark is an entry level handset designed to please everyone on a shoestring budget.
The Intex Aqua Style Mini gets an official price of Rs. 4,990 and is adding some Bollywood masala to its marketing in the hopes of selling more units to the film crazy people of India. Intex has partnered with the makers of “Mary Kom” – a biopic of India’s five-time Wold Amateur Boxing Champion, Mary Kom. As a part of this promotion, the company would also be selling 5000 units of Limited Edition: Mary Kom branded handsets.
As for the all important features on the device, the Intex Aqua Style Mini packs in a 1 Ghz dual core processor and like most other Indian phones in this price bracket – sports dual SIM capability. The main camera is capable of capturing images at five megapixels. RAM is low – a measly 512 MB which is inadequate in this day and age. Connectivity options look decent with support for 3G, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi. The internal memory of 1.23 GB is carved out of the total of 4 GB of ROM.This is low – but then I have to remind you again about the price of this phone. That said, I shall have to remind you, the reader that the likes of the Moto E and the Asus Zenfone variants are much more capable devices for a little more money.
On the software front, Intex has it covered with the phone running Android 4.4 KitKat. It also comes preloaded with a lot of games and apps.
The Intex Aqua Style Mini would be available in two color options – White and Black. It would go on sale on Snapdeal – a popular e-commerce site in India. Unlike the Xiaomi’s online only strategy, the Intex would be in due course made available through offline retailers as well.
So, do you plan to get yoursef an Aqua Style Mini?
