We have a new HDMI dongle that turns your dumb TV into a smart device. Intel has named it the Compute Stick, and it manages to do much more than the competitors do. Instead of giving you simple streaming and beaming capabilities, this stick literally comes with the power to turn your TV into a full-blown PC.
That tiny thing has all the computer components inside! In fact, there are two versions of it; one sports Windows 8.1 with Bing while a cheaper iteration will be the dream for fellow Linux enthusiasts. Yes… Linux!
You do get a deal if you go for the Linux version, as it will cost only $89, featuring 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. The Windows version costs $149 and doubles on the RAM for a 2 GB set-up, along with 32 GB of internal storage. Both come with an Intel Atom Z3735F Bay Trail processor.
Ports include a microSD card slot, a full USB port and a microUSB port, along with a power button. Of course, you also get the HDMI out port.
Not bad for a little HDMI stick, to be honest. And while it is a bit larger than your usual Chromecast and company, it will offer capabilities and power far beyond what the other HDMI dongles can.
