HTC’s quarter is looking brighter, Android Wear app shows up and Google Play gift cards are reaching more countries. It’s looking like a good afternoon!
Apple and Samsung are usually the only ones making a profit in the mobile industry, but there is one other manufacturer going above and below the profit line quite often. HTC is back in the game after a pretty bad 1st quarter this year.
HTC has unveiled its Q2 results, showing a profit of about $92.3 million. This may not match last year’s Q2 results, but it sure is an improvement over the 1st quarter’s $60 million loss.
Opinion: We can probably thank the widespread release of the HTC One M8 for much of this success. HTC has been doing a great job and their phones are amazing. We can only hope this rocket keeps moving up from now on.
Are you ready to start using your Android Wear device? We know many of you are anxiously waiting for next week (when these devices will start shipping), but here is a little something to carry you over smoothly. The Android Wear companion app has just been released in the Google Play Store.
Your Android Wear devices will work with Android 4.3+ out of the box, but this app will help you fine tune your experience. You will be able to set your preferences and adjust all the little details with this app.
Opinion: Google has been doing a good job getting this platform ready for launch. Apps and fixes have been showing up even before these smartwatches reach people’s wrists. Let’s hope this becomes a habit!
The best way to gift Google Play Store apps and content is via Google Play gift cards. Sadly, these are not available everywhere yet, but they are spreading rapidly. Today, Google is announcing the upcoming availability of Google Play gift cards in 3 new countries: Greece, Poland and Portugal.
Opinion: I don’t often give technology-related gifts, but I must accept I have handed out a couple Google Play gift cards. These are convenient and simple. We are sure many will enjoy these in the new markets.
