Gaming laptops fall under their very own categories. There is no way to compare them with average computers, whether portable or not. These beasts are made for playing hard-core games on-the-go. Somehow they also manage to stay both extremely powerful and good-looking, a set of traits we could only dream of just some years ago.
Enter the HP OMEN 15-5000ng, a new gaming laptop that is here to take on this niche market. Can this computer go against competitors like Razer, Alienware, MSI and ASUS? We have gone hands-on and tested it for a bit, and we can tell you it seems to get very close.
HP OMEN 15-5000ng specs
- Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
- 15.6-inch 1920x1080p IPS LED display
- 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 processor
- 4 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M
- 16 GB of RAM
- 256 GB of internal storage
- DVD reader/writer
Those are definitely some specs you can’t argue against, but they are also not something we haven’t seen in the past. Regardless, you can rest assured that your high-end games will be handled very well by this system. This is no bargain, but we don’t believe HP is ripping you off, either.
In terms of looks and build quality, this bad boy is as sleek and sexy as they get. Especially considering this is a gaming laptop – these tend to be bulky. You won’t compare this laptop to the thinest notebooks out there, of course, but it excels within its own market.
The aluminum body gives it a high-end build quality. And the laptop sure looks good, which is also a usual trait in gaming laptops – they look badass! The backlit keyboard also feels very solid and you get a little extra flare with the colored LEDs under the speakers.
Now let’s talk about price. How much is this bad boy going to cost me?! Well, it won’t be cheap, as you probably assumed. Pricing starts at $1,599. It’s not a bad deal considering what this bad boy packs; it’s up there with the big guys.
