On Friday Apple emerged triumphant from an arduous patent trial that had everyone’s teeth on edge. Samsung and Apple quickly released statements to the press as the shocking verdict set the web on fire with commentary. What will this mean for Android? Everyone kept asking, as Google remained silent. Now Google has issued a statement in response to the verdict.
“The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims,” Google said in the statement. Google avoided apocalyptic pronouncements and put the matter off, saying that most of the claims “don’t relate to the core of the Android operating system.” The closest the company got to making a strong statement that showed displeasure with the trial’s outcome came out in the end of the statement:
“The mobile industry is moving fast and all players — including newcomers — are building upon ideas that have been around for decades. We work with our partners to give consumers innovative and affordable products, and we don’t want anything to limit that.”
