Google, LG and Telltale are blessing tonight’s news with new features, materials and game releases. Let’s see what these stories are all about!
Finding the right balance between security and convenience is hard, but those who favor the latter will be happy about a new feature Google is introducing to Android devices. “On-body detection” has been rolling out to devices, without much fanfare.
This is a feature that would pretty much keep your device unlocked while you are carrying it. Set the phone down and you will be asked for a password next time it is woken up. It’s a pretty simple feature that takes advantage of the accelerometer, but we know many of you will find it useful.
The feature was discovered in a Nexus 4 running Android 5.0.1. Nothing proves this feature is exclusive to any software versions, but all reports involve Nexus and new smartphones so far. We should find out more soon.
Opinion: Whether you will like this feature or not depends a lot on your preferences. I happen to like it because I am not a big fan of passwords and PIN numbers. Even it’s not the most secure way to use a phone, it may keep my private data from unsafe hands. I would still change all passwords if my phone is lost, though. You know… just in case.
The LG G3 was made of a material that blended metal and plastic together. This made for a better construction and build quality, but the Korean manufacturer is not yet up there with the other big guys, who have all mostly started using “premium” materials. I mean, even Samsung is catching up now!
A report from ZDNET Korea now claims LG is ready to catch up in this department and a said LG G4 Note will come with a metal body later in the year. Sadly, this means the LG G4 may not get the same treatment.
Opinion: Even if plastic and other hybrid materials can be just as resistant as metal, nothing quite beats the feeling a full metal smartphone offers. I am glad to see LG stepping up to the plate and joining the metallic party.
Have you been playing around with the Game of Thrones Telltale game series? I have, so I am super excited to see that Episode 3 is almost upon us. Telltale has finally given us a release date; you won’t be waiting long!
- 3/24 – PC/Mac (worldwide), PS4 & PS3 (North America/SCEA)
- 3/25 – Xbox One & Xbox 360 (worldwide), PS4 & PS3 (Europe/SCEE)
- 3/26 – iOS and Android-based devices (worldwide)
Opinion: If you are a fan of the HBO series, this game will be a blast! It really has all the action and plot twists (crazy deaths) that Game of Thrones is so popular for. I know what I will be doing for fun this weekend.
