As we gear up for the official start of Computex 2014 tomorrow, we see a number of new devices have already been launched, including the latest member of the ASUS FonePad phablet family. The FonePad 8 FE380CG is a dual SIM device that runs Android 4.4 on the new Intel ‘Merrifield’ Z3560 processor. We were ready to pounce on the device as soon ASUS would let us near it. Check out our hands on video below.
The ASUS FonePad 8 FE380CG as the name suggests is an 8 inch phablet that ASUS has designed for customers who want to enjoy a really good media experience on a device that combines a phone with a great looking 8 inch 720p display. The HD 1280 x 800 display is an IPS that the company claims provides 72.2% screen-to-body ratio; i.e. offering maximum viewing area with the devices’ thin 5.06mm bezel.
The new FonePad 8 is one of the first devices we have seen using the Intel Atom Z3560 quad core processor based on their latest ‘Merrifield’ architecture. The device comes with 1GB of RAM and a choice of either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage. A rear 5MP camera is joined by a 2MP on the front. Here are the other specs in detail:

The finish on the device is notably impressive – despite being essentially a plastic cover the feel, as Roland describes it in the video is much more like cotton or fabric and also looks fantastic. We look forward to getting our hands on this one further down the line.
