BlackBerry has finally launched the Classic, Google signs a patent deal with Verizon, OnePlus announces a portable charger.
BlackBerry has finally launched the Classic, a device that the company has been teasing for a good portion of the year. This phone comes with a… well, classic look, but it also offers modern specs and great functionality.
Specs include a 3.5-inch 720x720p display, an older dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of RAM, an 8 MP rear-facing camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera. It goes on sale today via local carriers around the world. As for the USA, Verizon and AT&T have confirmed they will be selling it in 2015.
Opinion: The BlackBerry Classic is made for those who loved the older BlackBerries, which were praised for their quality keyboards and productivity, as well as BlackBerry’s signature security. I am not a fan, but you may be.
Reaching cross-licensing patent agreements has become a common norm in today’s conflictive tech industry. It’s a way to improve innovation by allowing companies to use each other’s technology without worrying about lawsuits . Win-win situation.
The latest deal comes from Google and Verizon, who will have rights to each other’s patents for at least 5 years to come.
Opinion: Verizon says they are looking to strike more deals like this one, and we know Google is always on the search for more patent partners. Here goes for a bright future without patent trolls!
OnePlus has been known to venture into more new markets, as well as the mobile industry, and today they are announcing a product that many of us could see coming. The best companion for a good smartphone experience is a portable charger, which can extend your device’s battery life significantly.
Enter the OnePlus Power Bank, a 10,000 mAh portable charger that can charge your average device three times. It has a couple USB ports, so you can also charge multiple devices at once. And it looks good, coming in two models. They are the same as the smartphone: Silk White and Sandstone Black.
The OnePlus Power Bank will be available in early 2015 for a price of £13.99 or $14.99.
Opinion: Now that is one hell of a deal! It will definitely go into our best portable chargers article, where you can’t find any other comparable battery pack at such a low price.
