Today is a nightmare for any tech journalist. It’s April 1st, widely known as April Fools day, so you just never know what is real and what isn’t! Out of all this news chaos come a lot of chalks and giggles, though. Companies and reporters get very creative, so we thought we would join the fun and share our favorite pranks with you. Let’s get right to it.
This has got to be my favorite April Fools joke. You can play Pac-Man on Google Maps! This pretty much allows you to streets into Pac-Man mazes. Pretty dope! Just open up Google Maps and a Pac-Man square will show up next to the satellite view button. Click it and start playing!
If we thought email wasn’t evolving fast enough, we should look back and see how outdated traditional mail is. This is an important fact, but Google decided to touch on the subject with a bit of humor. They are showing off the Smartbox by Inbox by Gmail by Google.
It’s obviously a joke, but I actually kinda liked the idea of a mailbox that gives you notifications. Maybe someone can make it?
Google also went a little nuts and announced Google Panda. This is a panda stuffed animal that you can ask anything to. Presumably, it would access Google’s database for answers. It’s actually pretty cute, and I wish I had one. I bet it would be an amazing conversation starter!
So Samsung got pretty creative here. They showed off the Sasmung Galaxy BLADE Edge. We all know companies are trying to make everything smart, but no one had tried making a knife smart! Samsung said this knife would come with things like a diamond edge, a foldable handle, a camera for food photos, a thermometer, a water/fire proof construction, a human blood sensor, a thermometer and more. Pretty nuts, right?!
Some of you may not even know what MS-DOS. It’s pretty much the great grandfather of operating systems. It works on commands… straight up commands. It’s white text on a black screen. Microsoft thought it would be fun to bring this experience to mobile. Enter MS-DOS Mobile. The best part? It’s actually real and you can download it from the Windows Phone app store.
Are your pets not connected enough? Maybe it’s about time to switch over to T-Mobile, where you can get your pet a phone for only $5 a month. Sweet deal!
Now, I am no fan of selfie sticks, but if I was to get one it would be one like the ones Motorola announced today. They just look so elegant!
I knew this was likely a joke from the first time I read the title, but somehow the guys at Android Police still managed to get me a little excited. Joke’s on me!
Anyways, they made us believe Google Reader was back and improved with Material Design. They had screenshots and even an APK download link. You bastards!
Forget extending your arm or having to carry around an annoying selfie stick. The guys at Miz Mooz have created the Selfie Shoes! You can dock your phone in it and press the shutter button with your tow.
