The mobile industry is producing some of the best phones history has seen. These are not only feature-full and powerful, but they are also thinner and more aesthetically pleasing than ever.
Keeping these design improvements while making devices more powerful comes with a price, though. A price not everyone is willing to pay. Manufacturers need to pack components in a smaller area, which has caused non-removable batteries to become much more popular.
Now it’s rare to find a phone with a user-replaceable battery. This is a very missed feature for the mobile geek world. Even though battery technology is improving, there’s multiple reasons why we would often prefer a removable battery.
Here are some examples. For one, batteries die (or break) and often need replacing. Furthermore, it was great being able to carry multiple batteries and swapping them when one depleted. Not to mention, it was easier for manufacturers to make extended batteries.
Thankfully, there’s still a few jewels out there, and some manufacturers refuse to go all in with non-removable batteries. Here are our very favorite devices with removable batteries.
It’s also among the best options for removable battery lovers and comes with top-notch specs. It touts a massive 5.5-inch QHD (2560x1440p) display, a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3 GB of RAM, a 3000 mAh battery and more.
LG G3 S
If, like us, you didn’t like everything about the LG G3, its smaller brother may be a better option for you. The LG G3 S comes with a lower price tag, much more modest specs and mostly the same design and awesome features you will find in the G3.
Specs include a 5-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8MP/1.3MP cameras and a 2540 mAh battery. We also have a review for the LG G3 S, so take a look at it before making your final decision.
Samsung Galaxy S5
Of course, we couldn’t forget about what could be the most popular Android smartphone in the world. The Samsung Galaxy S5 happens to be among the best devices with a removable battery (read our Samsung Galaxy S5 review for more details).
The build quality and design may not be for everybody (definitely not for me), but Samsung devices are good and are backed by a very prestigious company. Specs include a 5.1-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16MP/2.1MP cameras and a 2800 mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
Looking for something a little bigger? The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 also happens to have a removable battery. It also carries an amazing 5.7-inch QHD (2560x1440p) display many of you will fall in love with.
Inside you will find enough power to throw around, carrying specs that compete only with the best of the best. Soon you will also be able to purchase the Note Edge, which is nearly identical to the Note 4, but with an extra bit of display that bends around the edge.
Those who want to stick with BlackBerry and need a removable battery are in luck. The BlackBerry Z10 is one of the best BlackBerry devices and it’s one of the last of its kind to have a removable battery.
Nokia Lumia 630
The Nokia Lumia 630 (also 635) is a great affordable device, but it’s also one of the very few Nokia devices with a removable battery. Some carriers offer it for as low as $80 off contract.
Can’t beat that deal very easily!
Samsung Galaxy ATIV SE
I guess we must go back to Samsung for a high-end Windows Phone that also features a removable battery. The Samsung ATIV SE is a very powerful device, but there is one downside – it’s only available from Verizon in the USA.
Thankfully, there’s a few other Samsung options to choose from, like the ATIV S Neo and the ATIV S Odyssey. The Samsung Galaxy ATIV SE is our favorite Samsung Windows Phone with a removable battery, though.
