The smartphone trend is leaning towards larger and larger devices. This makes for an overall awesome viewing, typing and media experience, but the truth is these over-sized smartphones are definitely not for everybody, especially as smartphones start nearing the 6-inch threshold.
Large devices are harder to fit in pockets, carry, and overall, harder to handle. And those with smaller hands are out of luck in today’s mobile market, where smaller device are rare. If you happen to find a phone with a good size, you can be almost sure its specs and performance also take a hit.
Where are the powerful, well-built and smaller devices? You really never know what efficiency and comfort is until you can one-hand your smartphone. Today we are giving you a list of our very favorite one-handed smartphones. Good small smartphones are rare, so keep reading to see what option best suits you.
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
It’s hard to find a small smartphone that is also as powerful as the high-end devices around. In a world where “Mini” devices are always given the shorter end of the stick, a powerful, small phone has to be given the right recognition. The Sony Xperia Z3 is our favorite one-handed smartphone.
Did Sony skimp in any departments? You could say so, but it’s an understandable downgrade. The 4.6-inch display has a 720p display, a definition that is no longer considered outstanding. The screen does still look great, with vibrant colors and no real issues.
It’s the other specs that really make this little phone an awesome deal. The Xperia Z3 Compact packs a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, an awesome 20.7 Sony Exmor RS camera, a 2.2 MP front-facing shooter and 2600 mAh battery.
You can read our Sony Xperia Z3 Compact review for more details. Spoiler: we love it!
It’s definitely much larger than the the 4.0-inch iPhone 5s, but the iPhone 6still fits the one-handed size requirements with a 4.7-inch screen. The device is thin and very easy to handle. We can also all agree that the iPhone 6 is considered a high-end smartphone. It only competes with the best of the best, so this may be a good option if what you want is a very capable phone with a reasonable size. So long as you don't mind iOS, that is.
HTC One Mini 2
Another great smartphone for one-handed users is the HTC One Mini 2. Now, this phone does have specs leaning more towards the mid-end of the spectrum, but it share the same build quality as the almighty HTC One M8.
The metal construction and solid build will make you feel like you are holding one of the best devices in the world. This phone is gorgeous. If you are curious, though, specs include a 4.5-inch 720p display, a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, 13MP/5MP cameras and a 2110 mAh battery.
It’s no HTC One M8 flagship smartphone, but it will take care of work fairly well. It’s also only $400. You can get a similarly specced phone for less, but none of them will look and feel as good as the HTC One Mini 2.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini
While we are taking a look at the big manufacturers, we also have to give some attention to good ol’ Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini also looks just like its bigger brother (the Samsung Galaxy S5), except for its size, of course.
This smartphone features a 4.5-inch 720p display, a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, 8MP/2.1MP cameras and a 2100 mAh battery. Not exactly the best phone around, and it’s priced just like the HTC One Mini 2. Some of you may prefer Samsung’s design and software, though.
Moto G (2nd generation)
I have probably recommended this smartphone hundreds of times. Not only is it a great one-handed device that fits in every pocket, but it offers good performance and functionality for one of the lowest prices you will find in the market.
The Moto G was the first phone to offer an acceptable experience at $179, and the 2nd generation only improves upon it. This bad boy comes with a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and a 2070 mAh battery.
