The ultimate dream is to see mobile gaming reaching console quality. The road is long and many a fork is to be found, but we are definitely getting closer than ever. We have some very complex and graphic intensive games around, but let’s just face it – you can have the best games, but that will mean nothing if you are playing them on a touchscreen.
The tactile feedback, intuitive design and hand-friendly design of a gamepad will never be beat by a touchscreen. Of course, some games are made for touch, but the fact is most good games would play better with a controller. This is why we decided to create a list of our very favorite ones.
There is a disclaimer, of course. Do realize not all of these controllers are compatible with every game or every platform out there. Make sure you look into those details if you want to play certain games or use specific devices.
Nyko Playpad Pro
The Niko Playpad Pro offers full console confort with a full controller body. The build quality is still not as good as a console’s controller, but it works great with your mobile games.
In fact, this is the controller I own. I will recommend it for its traditional design, good gaming control and one of the best prices in this list. The device can currently be had for only $18.99 on Amazon.
Those who love their PlayStation 3 controllers might want to check out the GameKlip. This is not really a controller. Instead, it puts your PlayStation controller and device together into a mobile gaming experience like no other.
Thise does have its downside, though. Using a wireless connection between the PS3 controller and your phone may need root and/or third party applications. All the GameKlip does is put them together.
Luckily, you can use a wired connection with many devices. You can check GameKlip’s device compatibility page for all the details. The GameKlip is only $17.21 on Amazon.
Some say the best accessory is the one you have on you at all times. The Impulse controller is possibly the most portable and smallest controller out there. It literally goes on your keychain and can fit in any pocket without trouble. It is tiny, guys.
Now, this may not offer the best gaming experience, but it will make for fun gaming sessions around town. Not to mention, it can double as a camera shutter. The Impulse controller can be had for $39.99 on Amazon.
Power A MOGA Pro Power
This happens to be my favorite high-end controller. It offers ergonomics and build quality that ask nothing of the best controllers in the market. It is comfortable, solid and very fun to play with. That is not why I love this controller so much, though.
Gaming sessions can kill your battery in a jiffy, which is what makes the controller so amazing. It also works as an external battery, meaning this controller can charge your phone while you play. At $69.99, it is one of the best bluetooth controllers you can find around.
MOGA Ace Power
Those who prefer those controllers that embody the phone can also opt for the MOGA Ace Power. This iOS controller is a bit easier to carry and becomes an extension to your phone. It turns your phone into what looks more like a portable console.
It also sports an 1800 mAh battery that charges your iOS device while you play, making it a great alternative to the MOGA Pro Power. Of course, quality comes with a price, and you can have this one for $62.99.
