Among a slew of devices unveiled in Taipei today, ASUS launched an updated version of the Fonepad 7, which is now one of the first devices to use the new Intel ‘Merrifield’ processor. Using an Intel Z3560 processor, the updated FonePad 7 (FE375CG) was shown at the ASUS press event where we managed to get our geeky hands on it.
ASUS as a company have never been afraid to mix and match when it comes to device form factors and sizes, so among launches of their MemoPad, and Transformer devices, we also see a their latest FonePad iteration, the Fonepad 7 FE375CG. The key thing of course is the updated ‘Merrifield’ CPU from Intel which promises better performance and battery life – something we look forward to testing in the coming weeks and months.
As well as the latest quad-core 1.8GHz system-on-chip from Intel, you are also getting 1GB of RAM and a fairly healthy 16GB of internal storage. There is a 5MP camera on the rear of a the device with a 2MP selfie cam on the front.
The 7 inch display has a 1280 x 720 resolution which has been coated to help deal with fingerprints. Weighing in at just under 300 grams, the new FonePad 8 feels good in the hand, sporting a pleasant matte finish. The OS is Androd 4.4 Kit Kat.
