It’s not a bad idea to check out your new phone to make sure that there are no surprises hanging out under the hood. If you don’t see any dots on your screen but solid colors of white, black, red, green or blue, then all your pixels are fine. It’s also useful to look at a white picture, you’ll be able to tell if there are any color deviations on your screen. Looking at all white makes any changes in color temperate immediately noticeable.
Checkout all your hardware with mTest, it’ll will do an internal diagnostic to make sure that everything is in order. Microphones, WiFi, Bluetooth, light sensor. This apps checks it all out and gives you a report.
In mTest check the buttons, but try it out independently of the app to make sure that it is quick and fast. You want to make sure it works well, not just that it works. This is the same with face recognition and the touch ID software. Check them by using your fingers and face recognition to see if they are functioning normally.You should also turn the camera on and take some pictures, dust is the main enemy of your iPhone camera. When there is dust under the sensor, you can see this in photos by means of gray dots. First check the outside of the lens briefly and then take a test photo of an all white surface, it will be easy to see anything in the lens photographing a solid color.

Running the above tests will help you identify hardware fails faster, but you’re not a professional, so you should get a generous amount of time to find out if anything is wrong.
