Apple, ZTE and LG have some surprises for us today! Today’s stories include leaks, announcements and release dates, so let’s dig right in.
It seems it was just yesterday that the iPhone 6 came out, yet the rumor mill takes no breaks. A new report from Digitimes claims there will be three iPhones launching this year. These would be the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and a third iPhone 6C.
These devices would come with LTPS panels, coming from Japan Display, LG Display and Sharp. They would all feature Corning’s Gorilla Glass. Packed inside would be an Apple A9 chip for the 6S series, while the 6C would get an A8 chip (which is still plenty powerful).
Opinion: I honestly thought Apple’s “C” devices were a passing fad. I never thought I would see another one again, but I guess Apple is really going nuts lately. Either way, we are expecting to see these phones during the second half of 2015. Let’s see what else they have to show us this year.
ZTE is set on taking the market with its new products, and today they have announced a couple options at a Beijing event. These are the ZTE Nubia Z9 Max and Nubia Z9 Mini. As the names entail, the former happens to be a high-end device, while the latter is a mid-tier, affordable option.
The ZTE Nubia Z9 Max comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, 16MP/8MP cameras and a 2900 mAh battery. The ZTE Nubia Z9 Mini checks in with a 5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 615 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, 16MP/8MP cameras and a 2900 mAh battery.
These are priced at CNY 2499 (about $400) and CNY 1499 (about $240), relatively.
Opinion: Not bad. Not bad at all! Let’s hope these make it to the USA and other markets.
Remember the LG Watch Urbane LTE? It’s pretty much a version of the Watch Urbane that needs no smartphone to run, and actually uses a modified version of WebOS instead of Android Wear. If you have been itching to get one, the smart watch will be launching very soon. In fact, it will be released tomorrow, March 27th.
Of course, this would be only in South Korea, LG’s home market. The price is not set low, either. It will cost 650,000 KRW, which equals to about $590. No news on wider availability have been released. With its first launch out of the way, though, we can only expect it to hit other markets soon.
Opinion: That is one expensive watch! I can guarantee it will fail if it comes to the USa at that price point. It may be good-looking, independent and powerful, but that is just too much money for a smart watch. I mean, that is more than an Apple Watch (steel). Good luck with that competition.
