Goophone, the industry leader in unauthorized clones of popular phones and tablets, has announced the Goophone S5, the first clone of the Galaxy’s new flagship phone. The company, which has repeatedly made a name for itself by copying top models from various manufacturers like Apple, Samsung and HTC, has made a full announcement on their website.
While the specs are already listed, along with an image of the Goophone S5, the first picture is nothing more than – no surprises here – a copy. While Goophone’s announcement may seem extremely fast, the image is simply a photo-shopped screen cap of the official Samsung S5 press release. In reality, the device will likely look a bit different, but with this announcement, is sure to hit the Chinese market soon. After all, Goophone has proven time and again that in the world of fake phones, they’re to be taken seriously.
Technically, the Goophone S5 is actually quite comparable to its original Samsung counterpart – although its components are obviously cheaper, keeping the price nice and low. The clone phone will feature a 5-inch 1920 × 1080 IPS display, which (due to its smaller size) may even have a possibly higher pixel density than the Galaxy S5. Under the hood it’s running a 2.0 GHz version of the MediaTek MT6592, featuring the new Octacore ARM Cortex-A7 SoC from Taiwan. The phone will also have a purported 2 GB of memory, and 32 GB of internal flash memory that can be expanded via micro-SD.
The knockoff phone also features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a 2800mAh battery (similar to the Galaxy S5), and two standard-sized SIM card slots. Unfortunately, the phone does not feature LTE support, and has a maximum download speed of 21 Mbps. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 are (obviously) also included. There are, however, certain features that will remain unique to the Galaxy S5. The newest and coolest features, like the home-button fingerprint scanner, infrared transmitter and heart rate monitor, will all likely not be included in the clone. However, the operating system, running Android 4.2 “Jelly Bean”, will enable the Goophone S5 to make a persuasive clone.
While the Goophone S5 is certainly an impressive clone, the best thing about the rather brazen imitator will certainly be the price. At just under $ 300, it will sell for far less than the Galaxy S5. That being said, the Goophone S5’s price is quite high for a Chinese smartphone with the aforementioned features. Devices with similar specs are currently being sold in China for well under $200. But if the Goophone S5 still sounds compelling, you should know that it will be available in black, white, blue and gold… just like the Galaxy S5.
