Today we have Android 5.0 news to throw around! A bunch of phones are getting the update. Some will have it soon, some have it now and some have it unofficially.
Moto X (2nd generation) gets Android 5.0 Lollipop via soak test
We recently mentioned in an editorial that Motorola is setting an example with software updates, and the manufacturer is now here to prove it. Not long after Google released the source code, Motorola is already hard at work updating devices in a soak test.
The user who discovered this seems to have had no idea of this, so it’s likely that the previous owner signed up for the soak test program. Regardless, we will likely find out all the details soon.
Opinion: Wow, Motorola. This may very well be the first phone to get Android 5.0 as an update (not shipping with it).
Moto G (2nd generation) Android 5.0 release details published
And while we are at it, let’s take a look at the 2nd generation Moto G. Some details on the Moto G’s Android 5.0 update have been released, meaning the update is probably incoming.
Just like the Moto X release notes, these were taken down shortly after their publishing. A screenshot was saved, though. Check it out.
Opinion: Even though this is now officially a leak, we don’t have much to worry about. Now we know Motorola is busy getting these updates out. That is really all we want from them.
Galaxy Nexus gets Android 5.0 Lollipop?
Ok, so not really. At least not officially. The guys at XDA Developers have put together a neat ROM with Lollipop for the Google-abandoned Galaxy Nexus, which we know many of you still rock. It’s called FML, or Fork My Life.
Just go to the XDA Developers thread and read all the details. You may want to jump on this ROM.
Opinion: No good phone is ever dead, guys. Even if the manufacturer says devices can’t handle a specific software update, that is not necessarily true.
