Amazon is going nuts giving away free apps. Meanwhile, a purported Xiaomi Mi5 image leaks and LG joins the curved monitor bandwagon.
Amazon gave away $220 worth of apps for Christmas, and though they are not feeling just as festive for New Year’s, they have a great deal of free apps for you today. They are giving away exactly half: $110 worth of apps.
This includes apps like Monopoly, Angry Birds Star Wars, Fruit Ninja, Riptide GP2, Republique, Mini Piano and more. Check out Amazon’s page to see all the available free apps.
Opinion: While many of these are odd apps, a handful of them are pretty awesome to have. Especially for free!
The guys at GizChina have come across an image that is said to show the Xiaomi Mi5. It looks much like a Xiaomi Mi4, but with narrower bezels, and a Samsung-like button in the bottom.
This button is said to come with a fingerprint reader, which would be a very convincing reason for its addition.
Opinion: If you zoom in on the button, you see a bit of distortion around it, which makes me believe this button could have been photoshopped. I am no expert in faked images, though. Either way, take it all with a grain of salt.
Samsung is not the only one bringing curved displays to your desktops. LG has also announced a standalone monitor that features a huge 34-inch curved screen. While still not a 4K monitor, it does come with slightly superior definition at 3440x1440p.
The 21:9 panel also offers good quality, showing 99& of the sRGB color gamut and featuring IPS technology (known for displaying accurate colors). What’s even more awesome is that these monitors come with an integrated system that allows you to stack monitors together, making for an awesome multi-screen experience.
Opinion: Boy, does this look like a gamer’s dream. We have no idea what pricing and availability will be like, but be sure that we will be asking next week at CES.
