The Acer Convert R13, also known as the Acer R13, is an innovative convertible device that targets the high-end, professional and business segments with top grade specs and an innovative hinge design that makes it one hell of a flexible alternative to any standard notebook. We caught up with the device at IFA 2014:
The Acer Covert R13, is part of the new Acer R13 and R14 Series of convertible devices from the Taiwanese manufacturer. The new series employs a tablet like device held in place by two hinges that allow the tablet to swivel on its axis quite freely. Acer have branded the hinges ‘Acer Ezel Aero Hinge’.
Before you go any further, make sure you check out our Acer Convert R13 video that we shot at IFA earlier today:
The design works remarkably well and you can immediately see why professionals who spend most of their day on their feet would enjoy a device like this, especially with touch screen navigation available, the redundant keyboard can even be stowed away as in tablet mode. There are several usage modes in fact which include Notebook, Ezel Mode, Stand Mode and Pad Mode.
The Convert R13 as you would expect features a 13.3 inch LCD display that is actually available in a few different variations, namely WQHD (2560 x 1440) or good old fashioned Full HD (1920 x 1080). The device will be available in a choice of configurations including Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 with options for discrete Nvidia graphics too. All R13 and R14 models will come with at least 4GB of RAM and storage options include 1TB in a RAID O configuration – so sky is the limit really in terms of read and write speeds.
A high-end Acer R13 series device would truly be a thing of beauty when hey arrive in the Americas in October of this year. Base configurations will cost $899 USD.
