We first saw boot to Gecko last February at MWC and now we’ve finally found out who will be coming to market with the first handset. Aggressive Chinese manufacturer ZTE is reportedly working on a smartphone based on Mozilla’s Firefox mobile operating system.
They aren’t building the handset from scratch they will be using the the Android-powered V788D as a template. The smartphone will features a 3.5″ display that with a resolution of 800 x 480. Under the hood we’ve got a 1.5GHz system-on-chip with 512MB of RAM, a 5MP rear facing camera. Since it’s based on an existing platform rumor has it that it’s already in the hands of developers.
Book to Gecko is centered around HTML5 and it meant to use considerably less power than iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
