Xiaomi, Amazon and Apple are hosting today’s morning news with some of the hottest smart TV products and services. Let’s dive right in!
Xiaomi is keeping the technology world on its toes with some of the hottest, most affordable devices. It’s no surprise to see them undercutting the competition, and today’s announcement is a demonstration of what the Chinese manufacturer can do.
A new Xiaomi Mi TV 2 has been announced (the same that was recently teased). Last year’s Xiaomi Mi TV 2 touted a 49-inch 4K display, but we know such specs can be a bit overkill for users. This is why Xiaomi decided to go with a 40-inch 1080p screen for this version. Of course, we can expect the price to be lower, and it is. This new TV costs only CNY 1999, which is about $322 USD.
The 40-inch Mi TV 2 launches on March 31st. It comes with an LED Sharp SDP X-GEN panel, a 1.45 GHz quad-core MStar 6A908 Cortex A9 processor, a Mali 450 GPU, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and an Android-based operating system.
Opinion: This is such a deal! It’s sad to see that these Xiaomi products are having a hard time making it outside of China. In fact, I can almost guarantee we won’t see this in the USA.
Amazon is getting ready to push out a very significant update to its Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Unlike traditional OTA updates, this improvement will come with a plethora of new features. It will be rolling out over the “coming weeks” to its entire lineup.
Features include the ability to use expandable USB storage, connect to a hotel or dorm room with captive portal support, bluetooth headphone support, access Prime Music playlists, a hidden PIN screen and new shortcuts.
Opinion: Well, that’s something! We weren’t expecting such a large upgrade, and these are all very awesome improvements.
The Apple TV became a very enticing device when it was discounted to $69. That was aside from getting an exclusive hold on HBO Now. The outdated streaming machine is getting better and better, but today Apple has yet another surprise for you.
Three new channels have shown up on Apple’s TV set-top box. These are TED, Tastemade and Young Hollywood. Enjoy! This will be great to hold us over until the next-generation Apple TV comes around.
Opinion: My favorite out of the three happens to be TED Talks, which is why I focused on it for this post. I am seriously considering getting an Apple TV now, but I am pushing myself back and keeping my eyes open for the rumored new Apple TV.
