The Android Wear battle has already begun. The Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch are already in customer’s wrists and are available for purchase straight from the Google Play Store. Many Android Wear fans are waiting for a special other smartwatch, though.
Yes, we are talking about the Moto 360, one of the two Android Wear devices to be announced. This device was not released along with the others, and we don’t know much about price and availability wither. All we know is it will be released “later this summer“.
Is it worth the wait?
What exactly makes this device special? Well, the excitement mostly revolves around the smartwatch’s unique aesthetics. We will agree it is a very good-looking device, and the fact that it adopts a circular form factor makes it even more special.
Materials are better, mostly consisting of metal and leather, while the other two smartwatch sport more plastic than Moto 360 fans would like. Because most “real” watches have featured a circula design for ages, this also makes the Moto 360 much more casual. Which is something people love about it.
You won’t look like a geek, because there are more odds people will simply confuse it for your average watch. What else makes it different, though? To be honest, the Moto 360 is no different compared to the other two Android Wear devices available.
You may find some slight differences in specs, but ultimately all Android Wear devices work the same way and there are no noticeable differences in performance. You can see more on how Android works by taking a look at our LG G Watch hands-on article.
About the price…
As mentioned above, exact pricing is still unknown, but Motorola knows they have a clear advantage in design. Though previous rumors pointed towards a $250 price point, we are willing to be Motorola could be aiming for higher.
After all, the LG G Watch costs only $229, we would assume the high demand and build quality on the Moto 360 are enough to drive the price more than $20 higher.
Should I wait for the Moto 360?
We know many of you will argue that design is not important, but in this case it’s more important than we think. After all, this is a watch and design has always played a major role in choosing the right watch. Those who want to look good and blend better in the crowd will probably want to wait a bit more for that Moto 360.
This is not to say the other devices are not good looking. In fact, I kinda do like the LG G Watch’s simple and square look. It’s just a matter of preferences, and it seems most people do prefer the circular design.
